Squeaky Generator belt on a ’90 ZXR

Q. I am having problems keeping the correct tension on the generator belt. It was replaced less than 100 miles ago. Any suggestions?

A. 89-90 Zx7s do have belt driven generators and requires a special tool from Kawasaki to properly set the tension. I usually just put adequate tension on it by hand and then tighten down the hold down bolts and its never been a problem. You can find the part# for the special tool in the shop manual.
